Understanding Energy Work: From Reiki to Seichem and Beyond
Explore various energy healing modalities, their origins, meanings, benefits, and practices for holistic well-being.
What is energy work and energy healing?
Important: Energy healing is not a substitute for conventional medicine. Always consult with qualified healthcare professionals for medical advice and treatment.

A complement to conventional medical care, not a replacement

Often induces relaxation, which has known health benefits
Energy work and healing are holistic practices that aims to balance and restore the body's natural energy systems. Practitioners believe that by manipulating the body's energy fields, they can promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
The terms "energy work" and "energy healing" are often used interchangeably. In my opinion, the outcomes of both is the same - healing, clarity and spiritual growth. Many energy work practices can have healing effects, and energy healing techniques can be used for general well-being beyond specific healing goals.
The main difference lies in the intent and scope. Energy work is a broader category that includes any practice involving the manipulation of energy, whether for healing, spiritual growth, or other purposes. Energy healing is more specifically focused on using energy techniques for therapeutic or healing purposes.
Recognizes the connection of mind, body and soul
Non-evasive and focuses on body's capability to self heal
Energy healing practices have deep roots in ancient wisdom traditions spanning thousands of years. These time-honored techniques have been passed down through generations, evolving and adapting while maintaining their core principles.

Energy Healing Across Cultures

Ayurvedic medicine from India, with a 3,000-year history, influences energy healing through its understanding of the body's energy centers (chakras) and life force (prana).
Traditional Chinese Medicine, dating back over 2,500 years, forms the foundation for many energy healing concepts, including the idea of life force energy (qi or chi), and meridians.
Indigenous healing practices from cultures worldwide have contributed to the rich tapestry of energy work, emphasizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. These include shamanism, plant-based medicine for wholistic healing, and Mana in Hawaiian traditions.

Reiki practitioners use gentle hand placements to channel healing energy into the client's body. Reiki works with earth energy and is therefore quite gentle. It:
Reduces stress and promote relaxation
Accelerates the body's self-healing abilities
Balances the mind, body, and spirit
Seichem practitioners work with four main elemental energies, and hence is more intense than Reiki:
Earth (physical healing)
Water (emotional healing)
Fire (mental healing)
Air (spiritual healing)
It is particularly helpful in doing cord cutting to sever the karmic ties and psychic surgery to heal the aura and our subtle bodies.
Reiki
Reiki, originating from Japan, is one of the most well-known forms of energy healing. The word "Reiki" combines two Japanese words: "rei" (universal) and "ki" (life energy).
Seichem
Seichem, sometimes spelled "Sekhem," is an ancient Egyptian healing system that shares similarities with Reiki but incorporates additional elemental energies.
Different Types of Reiki

Different Reiki systems include Usui, Tera Mai, Karuna, Kundalini, and Angelic Reiki (and many more), each with unique techniques and focuses, such as traditional hand positions, use of symbols, or connection to specific spiritual energies.
While all Reiki systems work with this universal life force energy, different schools or styles of Reiki may have slightly different approaches or emphases:
Traditional Usui Reiki focuses on channeling this energy through hand positions and symbols.
Karuna Reiki incorporates additional healing sounds and symbols.
Kundalini Reiki aims to awaken and channel kundalini energy along with the universal life force.
Angelic Reiki practitioners believe they're working with angelic energies in addition to the universal life force.
Despite these variations, the core concept of working with and channeling universal life force energy remains consistent across all Reiki practices. The differences lie more in the techniques, symbols, or additional energies incorporated, rather than in the fundamental energy being channeled.
Energy Healing: What it is not
Not a replacement for medical treatment: Energy healing should complement, not replace, conventional medical care.
Not a quick fix: While some people report immediate benefits, energy healing often works gradually over time.
Not based on physical manipulation: Unlike massage or chiropractic care, energy healing doesn't involve manipulating muscles or bones.
Not a religious practice: While it can be spiritual, energy healing is not tied to any specific religion.
